A list of the best bug write-ups I've read
A modest list of interesting blog posts I've come across containing tech mystery stories exploring how a bug or mistake or other problem came about, how it was discovered, how it was fixed, and maybe some lessons to learn.
- The case of the 500-mile email, by Trey Harris
- A three part series by James Haydon on the August 2023 UK NATS (ATC) meltdown:
- A Very Subtle Bug, by Nelson Elhage. This bug was caused by unusual behavior in Python's handling of
SIGPIPEwhich was fixed in Python 2.7. - My Hardest Bug Ever, by Dave Baggett. Unlike almost every bug you'll ever come across, Dave was eventually forced to blame the hardware.
- I Accidentally Saved Half A Million Dollars, by "Ludicity", although this reads as a junior engineer's perspective
- The hardest bug I ever debugged, by Jacob Voytko
